BMW R80 Scrambler - Part 10: The Rides
Переглядів 11 тис.3 роки тому
PROJECT UPDATE! Finally! This last episode took a little bit longer than the others. After the first testride I still wanted to bleed the brakes, just to be sure. I also took my time to set the speedo, the process was a bit unclear at first and to be honest I couldn't explain you how to do it after all these months, but you'll figure it out! These rides were filmed during summer, right now it's...
BMW R80 Scrambler - Part 9: Assembly and testride.

PROJECT UPDATE! Now that all individual parts were ready, I could (finally) assemble everything again and get the bike back on its wheels. I rolled her outside, started it for the first time in 5 weeks and made my first test rides. The work is not over though. The speedometer needs to be calibrated, because at the moment it doesn't show any speed, I'll show the whole process in the next video. ...

PROJECT UPDATE! I installed the passenger footpegs, replaced the front brake hose, refreshed the battery box and installed an older style brake pedal make room for the exhaust pipe. After cleaning up the rear end (part 6) I had to wait for the ordered subframe and seat to arrive. It did. That made everything move forward again: rear fender, licence plate holder and light and mounts for the indi...
BMW R80 Scrambler - Part 7: Painting the tank.
Переглядів 14 тис.4 роки тому
PROJECT UPDATE! It's been a while, I know. Waiting for parts made the last couple of weeks go by very slowly. I started repainting the tank, but ran into some difficulties. I had to start over again after the first try, but I'm happy that I did. I know it still isn't perfect, some dents are still visible and the clearcoat has orangepeel all over it, but that will buff out (one day). Onwards!
BMW R80 Scrambler - Part 6: Cleaning up the rear end

PROJECT UPDATE! First of all the wheels go off to get them powdercoated, after that they will be fitted with new bearings and tires. The tank finally gets rid of the red color, more about that in the next video. With the whole rear end stripped down I noticed a lot of ugly spots. After cleaning they turned out to be rusty, so I decided to paint the parts in order to protect them for the next co...

PROJECT UPDATE! Before I'll take the wheels off, I took the opportunity to freshen up the look of the engine. A transparent fuel line and fuel filter replaced the black hose. The tires I ordered also arrived, the sizes of these Heidenau K60's are shown in the video. The older type of valve covers were installed, the red front cover got sanded down and everything got a nice matte black (heat res...
BMW R80 Scrambler - Part 4: Instruments, Lights

PROJECT UPDATE! Once I had the cables and wires cleaned up I installed the speedometer and made a bracket to mount the ignition switch next to it. With everything in place I could then stort out the wiring of the instruments. I found a very helpful diagram that showed the internals of the standard instrument cluster, that made it very easy to understand what wires I had to connect. With all con...
BMW R80 Scrambler - Part 3: Handlebars, Controls, Cable routing

PROJECT UPDATE! First of all, I wanted to clean up the messy cables. In order to decide how my cables should run, I installed the new handlebars, grips, mirrors, headlight and indicators. With the tank and original seat still mounted on the bike I could then easily decide if I liked the position. The clutch cable had some damage from rubbing against other parts, so I decided to replace it. The ...

PROJECT UPDATE! After buying and cleaning up the 1992 R80RT, it was time to move it inside and start the real work. A lot of time went into searching of parts online. Many of the parts will be shown in the video so you can easily find them yourself with a little bit of googling. Tire choice is hard because of the 18 inch size of both front and rear wheel. NEW PROJECT! 4 years after my green R80 Scrambler, it was time for a new project. Selling that previous one after a year always left some kind of hole that the Ducati Scrambler couldn't really fill. I found this 1992 R80RT with 132.000km's on the clock. It runs well and starts, rides and brakes like it should. The windshield and panniers had to go, as will many other parts soon. • @ThomasC
      @ThomasC 3 роки тому

      Hi, It was a loose paper that the previous owner left inside the Haynes manual, so I didn't have to look very far :-) The stamp across the page says 2-ventiler . de, so you could try to find it there. If you put the video in 4K and fullscreen you could probably just take a screenshot of 2:02, I think it's all visible there. Good luck!

      @@ThomasC Hi Thomas, Appreciate the reply. Worked perfectly with the 4K option.. I got by speedo wired up now thanks to you :) I can read in the comments that you used a resistor for the GEN light on you brothers bike. What was the resistor in OHM you used. One last question would be that you leave the port no 8 empty which is the "notausschalter"/emergency switch according to the diagram. What did you do with that? Thanks a ton. BR Chris

    • @ThomasC
      @ThomasC 3 роки тому

      @@christoffermuhlbach1699 We just took the original BMW speedo apart and took the GEN lamp out, then we traced its wire all the way back to the diode board and shortened evertyhing so the light would fit inside that front compartment. Plenty of insulation around it and a zip-tie to hold it in place, works perfectly. I always put the Voltage on my display so I can keep an eye on the battery and if it's charging or not. About the emergency switch I have no idea, it's too long ago :-) If it refers to the kill switch on the right hand side of the bars, it works fine without anything being connected to the speedo, as far as I know. Good luck with the rest of the build!
